Description
favorite subject of Angelos Theodoropoulos’s engraving from the early 1940s onwards is the island (mainly Cycladic) landscape and above all the rendering of its characteristic architecture. The specific engraving composition is mainly defined in its right (as seen by the viewer) part by the staggered and elevated rendering of the island settlement. The artist experiments with rendering different types of geometric volumes, such as different types of houses with their flat or arched roofs. There is also an intensity in terms of rendering the shadows, as well as the sky with its clouds in the upper left part of the engraving.
