Galinos Vangelis (1942)

Biography

Vangelis Galinos studied painting near Kostas Loustas and mosaic in Ravenna, Italy, under the guidance of Cicogniani. He was twice awarded with the First Prize: in 1977 at the 12th Demetria Festival (his work is at the collection of Teloglion Foundation of Arts, Thessaloniki) and in 2007 for the outdoor monument to Cyril and Methodius in Thessaloniki, together with ceramist Dimitra Stavrinidou and architect Klaudios Galinos.In 1980, a short film directed by Makis Pitsalidis, entitled “The Song of Stone – Vangelis Galinos”, was presented at the Drama Festival and broadcast on ERT 2. In 1987, he published his first book on mosaic, “Traditional and Contemporary Mosaic – Vangelis Galinos”, followed in 2009 by his second, “The Journey of Mosaic”. He has been teaching in his studio for many years, where approximately 3.000 students of all educational levels were educated.His artworks can be found in the collection of the Vorres Museum in Athens, numerous municipal galleries in Greece and abroad, public monuments in many municipalities, churches and private collections. He is a member of S.K.E.T.V.E. Thessaloniki, L’union des Artistes de Paris and the mosaicists’ association AIMC.He has held 53 solo exhibitions — four of them abroad (Paris, Nuremberg, Munich, Plovdiv) — and participated in 102 group exhibitions. He resides and works in Aretsou, Kalamaria.
