Description
The work presents two faces: the woman from Atalanti (and other paintings bear this title) and Eros. The second form is behind the first, so to speak in its shadow. The woman with the big eyes and masculine features turns towards the viewer but remains out of reach. He wears folk clothing and a scarf on his head. Eros, whose wings are just distinguishable, is an ugly presence. He turns his gaze in the opposite direction of the woman. The painting shows a complete absence of scenery – only a butterfly somehow breaks the monotony of the background.
