Description
Angelos Theodoropoulos captures in this engraving a reclining female nude facing the viewer from left (head) to right. The arms and the upper part of the torso are facing downwards, while resting on some object (probably a pillow). The lower part of the figure is rendered crouched with bent legs. In terms of style, we can find similarities both with Galani’s saginas, and with Renoir’s nude women with intense photo shading. As for the dating, as Angelos Delivorias rightly points out in the 2000 catalog, A. Theodoropoulos tests his capabilities in this particular engraving technique around 1936, as is also evidenced in the catalog of his solo exhibition of that year in the Stratigopoulos Hall, which we do not meet it in its later course.
