Description
Within a circle, the bearded god Asklepios is depicted sitting on a high-backed seat (throne) in a three-quarters position to the left (toward the viewer). The god wears a robe, which covers the lower part of his body and wraps around his limbs. His right hand extends forward and ends in a serpent’s head, which is depicted in front of his feet, while his left rests on his scepter. Behind the back of the seat: ASCLEPIOS (facing from bottom to top). The artist copies the reverse of a silver drachm of Epidaurus from the period 323-243 BC. Apollo Maleatas is depicted on the obverse of this cut.
