Kakoulidou-Vikelidou Efie (1922 – 2012)
Biography
The painter Efi Kakoulidou-Vikelidou was born in 1922 in Thessaloniki and passed away in 2012.
She began painting during her high school years, as she studied at the Aglaia Schina Girls’ School in Thessaloniki under the painters Christos Lefakis and Giorgos Paralis. She studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, majoring in Archaeology (1952–1957). Subsequently, she pursued independent studies in painting (1936–1949) and apprenticed for a year in the studio of Polykleitos Regkos. Around that time, she met N.G. Pentzikis and frequented his pharmacy, which served as an intellectual salon. While participating in a poster competition for the Thessaloniki International Fair, she met the painter and graphic designer Gianis Svoronos; they collaborated for six years, until 1964, at the lithography workshop where he worked. She was involved in the applied arts, and the custom scarves she designed for the Sistovaris – Jean Dessès fashion house became highly sought after.
She participated in group exhibitions in Thessaloniki.
