Tsakali Anna Maria (1959)
Biography
Anna-Maria Tsakali was born in Piraeus in 1959.
She lives and works in Athens and Paris. She is the wife of the painter Edouard Sacaillan.
She studied painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Leonardo Cremonini (1983–1987).
She has illustrated the books ‘The Only Inheritance’ (‘I Moni Klironomia’ by Giorgos Ioannou, 1995) and ‘Athens: Routes and Stops’ (‘Athina, Diadromes kai Staseis’, collective work, 1999).
She is represented by Kalfayan Galleries, Athens–Thessaloniki.
She has held solo exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Lefkada, and Paris. Additionally, she has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad (Cyprus, Belgium, France, Monaco, Switzerland, Dubai).
She has been honored with the A.C.A.M. painting award in Brécey, France, as well as the Colas Foundation award in Paris.
Her subject matter includes house interiors or views of modern cities, where the human figure is only seemingly absent, as it is suggested through everyday objects or clothing. In recent years, her source of inspiration has been nature, serving as a passage to an internal, experiential landscape. Through her paintings, she articulates a hopeful counter-argument to the pervasive dominance of ugliness that has overwhelmed the modern world.
Her works are included in public and private collections in Greece and abroad.
