Henri Félix Emmanuel Philippoteaux (1815 – 1884)
Biography
The painter Henri Félix Emmanuel Philippoteaux was born in Paris in 1815, where he also passed away in 1884.
He studied painting in the studio of L. Cogniet and began exhibiting his work at the French Salons in 1833.
He created numerous works centered on the Napoleonic Wars and was honored with the Legion of Honor (1846).
He specialized in the creation of panoramas depicting battle scenes, collaborating with his son, Paul, on two of them: the Panorama of the Siege of Paris (1872)—fragments of which are held in the collection of the Teloglion Foundation and were the subject of two special exhibitions in 2026–2027 and 2024—and the Battle of Gettysburg (1881–1883)
