The painter and stage designer Tonis Mavridis was born in Athens in 1934.
He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Yannis Moralis (1952–1954). He continued his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1954–1957), where he also met the city’s diaspora of Greek artists. Upon returning to Athens in 1957, he founded the “A23” Gallery and worked as an assistant stage designer alongside Yannis Tsarouchis and Yannis Migadis. In 1961, he settled in Munich, where he founded an association for Greek Artists. He worked as a graphic designer, and from 1972 onward, he dedicated himself entirely to painting.
In 1982, he founded the “Theater in der Westermühle,” an art theater subsidized by the city of Munich. Until its closure in 1995, he oversaw production management, directing, and stage design for its staging of classical and contemporary repertoire.
He presented his work in solo exhibitions (Munich, Cologne, Athens, etc.) and participated in group exhibitions (Paris, Munich, Nicosia, etc.).
His works are held in the Averoff Gallery in Metsovo, the National Gallery of Greece, and various private collections.
