The painter and engraver Phrixos Aristeus was born in 1879 in Athens, where he passed away in 1951. He studied at the Athens School of Arts (1892–1897) under K. Volanakis, G. Roilos, Nikiforos Lytras, and S. Prosalentis, and studied sculpture under G. Vroutos. He continued his studies at the Munich Academy (1897–1900) under N. Gyzis and F. von Stuck. In 1900–1901, he traveled to Florence and subsequently returned to Greece. The influence of Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), which dominated the Bavarian capital at the turn of the century, is evident in his work. A multifaceted personality, he was also involved in caricature, illustration, and lithography. He participated in the Panhellenic Art Exhibitions of 1939, 1940, and 1948.
