Faeinos Vangelis (1918 – 1985)

Biography

The painter Vangelis Faeinos was born in Magnesia, Asia Minor, in 1918 and passed away in Athens in 1985.
He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under O. Argyros and E. Thomopoulos (1935–1941).
He was taught the art of the poster by G. Vakirtzis (1947–1952) and created giant cinema posters.
He later settled in Canada, where he specialized in animation (1952–1959).
Returning to Athens in 1960, he developed a unique figurative idiom. His work is characterized by Surrealist and Realist elements harmoniously combined with Symbolist trends, approaching man’s alienation from technological civilization with a critical eye. In his final creations, emphasis was placed on plastic formulations through the use of fabrics and rich drapery.
He held solo exhibitions of his work and participated in several group exhibitions.
