Vitsoris Mimis (1902 – 1945)
Biography
He was born in Thessaloniki in 1902 and died in Athens in 1945.
In 1919, he enrolled in the School of Fine Arts but later abandoned his studies in reaction to the academic teaching methods. He traveled to Italy, Germany, Paris, and Malta between 1920 and 1927.
While in Paris, and from 1927 onwards in Athens, he worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for newspapers and magazines. Simultaneously, he published articles and essays on aesthetics, art education, and the art market.
His work was presented in solo and group exhibitions, including Panhellenic exhibitions, those of the ‘Techni’ group, the Association of Greek Artists, and international exhibitions, such as San Francisco in 1939. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1934 and 1940. Posthumous retrospective exhibitions were organized in Athens in 1957, 1973, and 1987.
