Fanourakis Thomas (1915 – 1993)

Biography

The painter Thomas Fanourakis was born in Heraklion in 1915 and passed away in 1993.
He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under O. Argyros, graduating in 1940.
Subsequently, he settled permanently in his hometown, Heraklion, where he worked at the Archaeological Museum and taught freehand drawing at the city’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Until 1970, he painted with oils and watercolors, primarily focusing on compositions with human figures, landscapes, and still lifes. After 1970, he shifted his focus mainly to still lifes. In his works, he depicts everyday objects stripped of all detail, placing them within a strictly structured space with a clear illusionistic mood.
