Kapralos Christos (1909 – 1993)

Biography

The sculptor Christos Kapralos was born in Panaitolio, Aetolia-Acarnania, in 1909 and passed away in Athens in 1993.
He received his first painting lessons from hagiographers in his birthplace. In 1928, he moved to Athens and worked as a draftsman in the office of architect V. Kouremenos. In 1929, he studied at the studio of sculptor Vasos Falireas. From 1930 to 1934, he studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Professor O. Argyros. From 1934 to 1940, he continued his studies in Paris under M. Gimond at the Colarossi and Grande Chaumière Academies. He returned to Greece in 1940 and worked in Panaitolio until 1946, the year he permanently settled in Athens.
He held numerous solo exhibitions (Parnassos 1946, 1950 (ceramics), 1957, 1972; New York 1963, 1967; Detroit 1963; Nuremberg, Germany 1964; Cincinnati 1967; Canada 1969). He also participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, including international showcases such as the Venice Biennale (1962, 1972), Pittsburgh, USA (1964, 1967), Carrara, Italy (1965), Padua (1965, 1967, 1973), Philadelphia (1965), the Netherlands (1966), Japan (1971), and the São Paulo Art Biennial (1975).
His works are held in the Hellenic Parliament, as well as in galleries and private collections both in Greece and abroad.
