The painter, textile designer, and jewelry designer Luigi Zanotto was born in Venice in 1919 and passed away in São Paulo in 1989.
He spent the early years of his life in Venice, where he apprenticed in painting under the renowned Italian artist Filippo De Pisis, and in 1949, he worked as a set designer for the Ca’ Foscari Theater. In 1957, he settled in São Paulo, where he opened a studio and taught painting classes.
He participated in group exhibitions in São Paulo, as well as in the São Paulo Biennials (1961, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1971, 1973, 1977, 1981).
In 1961, he entered the National Jewelry Design Competition (Concurso Nacional de Desenho de Jóias), sponsored by the jewelry house H. Stern, where he won 1st prize. His works are held in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP) and the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP).
