The painter and art critic Andreas Chrysochos was born in the village of Milia in the Famagusta district in 1929. He studied painting at the Goldsmiths’ College School of Art, University of London, on a British government scholarship (1952–1954 and 1957–1959). He subsequently worked as an art teacher and instructor in Cypriot schools, and also served as an art inspector for the Ministry of Education. Concurrently, he studied the psychology of children’s art at North East London Polytechnic.
From 1954 onwards, he participated in numerous group exhibitions both in Cyprus and abroad (Greece, USA, London, Madrid, Bucharest, Prague, 7th Alexandria Biennale—1968, 1st India Triennale—1968, 34th Venice Biennale—1968). His first solo exhibition took place in Cyprus in 1981. Over the course of his career, he received several distinctions for his work (First Worldwide Watercolor Prize in 1950 in London, an honorary medal in Alexandria in 1963, and the Grand Prix Européen des Arts et des Lettres in Nice in 1968).
