Velissaridis Giorgos (1909 – 1994)

Biography

He was born in Trabzon, Asia Minor, in 1909 and arrived in Greece in 1922. He died in Athens in 1994.
He studied painting and printmaking at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) under Konstantinos Parthenis for painting (1930–1935) and Yannis Kefallinos for printmaking (1933–1935).
He undertook numerous educational trips abroad.He worked at the printing house of the Bank of Greece in the department for the design and execution of banknote layouts (1939–1941) and at the Hellenic Post (ELTA) in the postage stamp design department (1968–1973). He was also involved in book and magazine illustration.
He presented his paintings and prints in solo and—primarily—group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, such as the Panhellenic Exhibitions from 1938 to 1973 (receiving a bronze medal in 1939), the 1937 Paris International Exposition (silver medal), and the International Exhibition in Leipzig in 1965. His work was also shown in Paris, Lugano, Stockholm, Geneva, and London, among other cities. He participated in the Alexandria Biennale in 1963.
