Angelos (Panagiotou) (1943)

Biography

The painter Angelos (Panagiotou) was born in Farkadona, Trikala, in 1943.
He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1962–1967) under Georgios Mavroidis.
From his very first steps, he developed an artistic path that consciously moves beyond the dominant trends of the time, seeking a dialogue with ancient art, the Renaissance, and the Baroque. His work is dominated by the human element and nature, rendered with intense plasticity and a distinctive lighting that lends the figures an almost transcendental presence, reminiscent of late Renaissance and Baroque works. Significant thematic series of his artistic career include, among others, ‘The Religious Works’, ‘The Shroud’, ‘The Pigeons’, ‘Still Lifes’, ‘Metaphysical Landscapes’, and ‘Full Moon Nights’.
His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions in Greece and abroad, and is currently held in public and private collections.
