Karachalios Kostas (1923 – 2007)
Biography
The painter and sculptor Kostas Karachalios was born in Tripoli in 1923 and passed away in 2007.
He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1947–1952) under Yannis Moralis and Oumvertos Argyros, while simultaneously taking classes in the sculpture studios. This was followed by studies (1957–1960) at schools in Paris (courses in fresco painting and printmaking at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École Estienne), where he distinguished himself as early as the beginning of the 1960s.
A fertile recipient of the trends of his time, his work oscillated between abstraction and New Realism, while he was gradually absorbed by “environments.” He shows an obsession with everyday objects, which are incorporated intact or altered into his imagery.
He demonstrated a truly impressive exhibition record, with numerous showcases in Paris and many other cities across the world.
