Korogiannakis Alexandros (1906 – 1966)

Biography

The painter Alexandros Korogiannakis was born in Megara in 1906 and passed away in Athens in 1966.
He studied painting at the School of Fine Arts (1920-1929) under professors G. Iakovidis and Nikolaos Lytras.
After his graduation, he engaged systematically with printmaking and collaborated with various newspapers and magazines as a cartoonist.
In 1939, he began his collaboration with the Bank of Greece and specialized in copper engraving for portraits and scenes on banknotes at the National Bank of Austria. He also illustrated poetry collections, albums, and short stories, and in the 1950s, he designed postage stamps. His involvement with printmaking did not prevent him from experimenting with painting as well.
Furthermore, he was a founding member of the “Eleftheroi Kallitechne” (Free Artists) group, a member of the Association of Greek Painters-Printmakers, and a member of the Xylon International Society of Woodblock Engravers.
He participated in Panhellenic exhibitions (1938-1965), Bienniales (Alexandria 1955 – 1st prize in printmaking), and international exhibitions (Exposition Internationale Universelle, Paris 1937 – 1st prize in printmaking; Salon de l’Art Libre, Paris 1963 – Bronze Medal).
