The painter Philip Tarlow was born in Brooklyn in 1940.
He pursued systematic studies in visual arts, lithography, and art history in Ohio (Antioch College, Yellow Springs), New York (School of Visual Arts), and London (London School of Arts and Crafts and the Courtauld Institute of Art).
During his stay in Greece (1965-1979), where he met and married Marina Karagatsi—daughter of the writer M. Karagatsis and the painter Niki Karagatsi—he was influenced by the work of Y. Tsarouchis, Y. Manousakis, and N. Karagatsi.
He presented his paintings in solo and group exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, and abroad (London, Amsterdam, and primarily the U.S.A.).
With an emphasis on detail, he painted views of Athens in which the modern city dialogues with the historically charged monuments of the past.
His works are held in public and private collections in Greece and abroad.
