Zampetoglou Andreas (1936 – 2006)
Biography
The painter and engraver Andreas Zambetoglou was born in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, in 1936, where he passed away in 2006.
He received his first painting lessons from his teacher and aunt, P. Schiza. He studied painting and printmaking at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg under H. Wilhelm and E. Weil (1962–1965), where he came into contact with the works of the Old Masters as well as contemporary trends in European painting and sculpture. He later studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts (1968) under Dimosthenis Kokkinidis and Giorgos Mavroidis.
In 1955, he met and formed a close friendship with the painter Giorgos Anastasiadis. He also taught painting at a private educational institution.
Initially an Impressionist, he soon turned toward Expressionism, focusing on urban landscapes, human figures, and still lifes.
He also engaged in small-scale sculpture (micro-sculpture).
He held solo exhibitions (such as at the Vafopoulio Cultural Center in 2002) and participated in group exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki. He was a regular participant in exhibitions at Dinos Christianopoulos’s Little Art Gallery ‘Diagonios’, where he held two solo exhibitions (1976 and 1983) and took part in 61 group exhibitions between 1974 and 1985.
