Sachinis Xenis (1954)
Biography
Xenis Sachinis was born in Thessaloniki in 1954. He is the son of the painter Nikos Sachinis.
In 1974, he was admitted to the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he studied printmaking under Kostas Grammatopoulos and scenography under Vasilis Vasiliadis. He graduated from the Athens School of Fine Arts in 1978 with an honorary commendation for his created works. From 1981 until June 1985, he pursued studies in Painting at the ENSBA (Paris) in the studio of V. Guignebert.
Starting in 1986, he taught drawing and printmaking at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). He was elected President of the same department three times and served as Dean of the AUTh School of Fine Arts from 2014 to 2018. Since 2023, he has been a Professor Emeritus of AUTh.
Since 1979, he has presented his work in 54 solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad, as well as in numerous international printmaking exhibitions. He has participated in three IMPACT international printmaking conferences, serving as a speaker in two of them, and has written two books on contemporary printmaking (published by “Diaplasi”).
In 1996, he was awarded the Grand Prize for Printmaking at the XIX Biennale of Alexandria. In 2016, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki presented him with an award of excellence in recognition of his artistic work abroad.
His works are held in dozens of museums, institutions, and collections both in Greece and internationally.
