Sachinis Nikos (1924 – 1989)

Biography

The painter Nikos Sachinis was born in 1924 in Thessaloniki, where he passed away in 1989.
He was the father of the painter Xenis Sachinis.
He studied law and economic sciences at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and painting under Polykleitos Reggos and the American Roy Moyer, a professor at Anatolia College of Thessaloniki.
In 1970, he was elected professor of freehand drawing at the Faculty of Engineering of AUTh. He was also involved in scenography, costume design, and film aesthetics, which he taught at drama schools in Thessaloniki. He also collaborated with the National Theatre of Northern Greece. Alongside his painting, he was engaged in the illustration of books, promotional materials, and posters.Sachinis initially focused on landscapes and still lifes and subsequently (from 1954 onward) on subjects of everyday life, houses, and genre scenes (ithografies). Around 1960, he turned toward abstraction and primarily abstract expressionism. After an extended stay in Europe (1982–1983), he was influenced by Neo-Expressionism. During this period, the scale of his works began to expand and his colors became clearer.
Since 1950, when his first solo exhibition was organized, he exhibited in numerous galleries in Greece and abroad, including the Alexandria Biennale (1975).
