Karavouzis Sarantis (1938 – 2011)

Biography

The painter Sarantis Karavouzis was born in Athens in 1938, where he also passed away in 2011.
He studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts from 1959 to 1963 under Y. Moralis. In 1967, he left for studies in Paris, where he trained at the École des Beaux-Arts, engaged in printmaking, and attended classes at the École Pratique des Hautes Études. He was primarily interested in painting, and his themes were influenced by Italian metaphysical painters. From the late 1960s onward, he began working with woodcut printmaking, followed by engraving, and finally lithography.
He presented his work in numerous solo exhibitions (Ora, Athens 1971, 1976; Drouant, Paris 1984; Vouros-Eutaxias Museum (Museum of the City of Athens) 1996, etc.), as well as in group exhibitions (Panhellenic Exhibitions, Athens 1965, 1967, 1975; São Paulo Art Biennial 1979; Printmaking Triennale, Chamalières, France 1988; Aenaon, Athens 1994, etc.). In 1984, he was awarded the Drouant-Cartier Prize.
