Απόστολος Πανταζής (1910 – 1995)
Biography
The painter Apostolos Pantazis was born in Ioannina in 1910 and passed away in 1996. He was the son of photographer Georgios Pantazidis, from whom he learned photography. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and the École des Beaux-Arts (1952–1953) in Paris, as well as at the Académie Lhote under A. Lhote, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière under E. J. Goerg, and the Académie Colarossi.
He subsequently settled in Paris, where he lived until his death, while also traveling to many European countries. In his work, he engages with landscapes, vedute, still lifes, and portraiture, utilizing a style of sometimes expressionistic and sometimes impressionistic plein-air painting.
He presented his work in numerous solo exhibitions abroad (France, Italy, USA) and in Greece, as well as in Panhellenic exhibitions and the Paris Salons. He received distinctions for his work (Juvisy Prize, Chartres Museum, Ravenna Museum).
He bequeathed a large part of his work to the Society of Epirus Studies.
