Sotiroudis Dimosthenis (1841)
Biography
The sculptor and painter Dimosthenis Sotiroudis was born in Petrota, Evros, in 1941. He lives and works in Kavala.
After graduating from the Ecclesiastical School of Xanthi, he studied at the Free School of Fine Arts and the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (1965-1971).
Following a journey of exploration in the U.S.A., he initially settled in Alexandroupoli (1971) and later in Kavala (1975), where he works as a museum sculptor for the Archaeological Service; he has left his mark on the curation and design of numerous museum exhibitions over recent decades, most recently at the Archaeological Museum of Thasos.
In sculpture, he has created a personal, recognizable style of expression centered on the human body. His materials are cast stone and metal, which are transmuted into fluid yet robust forms with existential intensity.
His works have been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Kavala, Xanthi, Thasos, among others) and abroad (Yale University and Massachusetts).
